World CIO 200 Summit continues with African edition recognising 25+ CIOs, 100+ virtual attendees

After a successful start of the World CIO 200 Summit 2022 in EuropeGlobal CIO Forum completed the second leg virtually in Africa. This included Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Botswana, Mauritius, and South Africa on 18th August 2022.

The World CIO 200 Summit Africa edition felicitated 25 + CIOs and Industry leaders who have accelerated digital and business transformation through and beyond the pandemic and created a better future for their business. The event featured three keynote speakers; five panellists and was 100+ attendees virtually.

This year The World CIO 200 Summit 2022 revolves around the theme of LeadX – Leading through transformation; where technology is borderless, ambitions are fearless and leadership is limitless.

The event was hosted by Gurleen Kaur, Community and Communication Lead who then further handed the stage over to Ronak Samantaray, CEO and Co-Founder of Global CIO Forum and Anushree Dixit, Global Head, Global CIO Forum. They welcomed all the Keynote speakers and attendees for joining the event and congratulated all the winners of the Africa edition and shared the collective vision of the Global CIO Forum as a platform of knowledge sharing and networking for like-minded CIOs globally, with the audience.


To enlighten the audience with the ongoing IT Landscape and future of IT in the African region, the summit was joined by the following speakers.

The Importance of IT and Business Collaboration 

Bravine Otieno, IT Manager/Country CIO, Schenker Limited, Kenya highlighted the Importance of IT and Business Collaboration and said, “IT has been seen as a cost center rather than value adding department passing various businesses. Years before the pandemic and after the pandemic period, IT has been seen for its real value. The ROIs are very impressive.”

He also briefed the IT and Business Collaboration and explained the four pillars of digital transformation including IT Uplift; Digitising Operations, Digital Marketing; and New Venture.


LeadX – A CIOs Story on Leading Transformation Through Change

Speaking at the event, Amit Kumar Saxena, CIO, Ramco Plexus – Ramco Group Kenya shed further light on Why nowadays, it is essential for every organisation to adapt the digital transformation. He added, “where ever is possible, we have to adopt the technology. Adoption is not only in one area, adoption should be across the organisation.”

Amit Kumar Saxena also explained the ten step digital transformation roadmap for the success of every business and its benefits.


Ambition VS Challenges. How the 2022 CIOs are embarking upon the journey of fearless leadership while tackling financial, geopolitical and managerial challenges

Faheem Ali, Chief Technology Officer, Elite, East Africa, Kenya introduced all the panellists for an expert panel discussion on the most talked about topic of 2022, “Ambition VS Challenges. How the 2022 CIOs are embarking upon the journey of fearless leadership while tackling financial, geopolitical and managerial challenges”.

During the power panel discussions Dickson Quartey, IT Operations Manager, First National Bank, Ghana; Uma Steve Kalu, CIO and Head, Information Services and Technology, NSIA Insurance Limited, Nigeria; Esther Adem, Digital Transformation Specialist, Brac International, Kenya; and Nelson Lutta OJ, Senior Manager, Customer Engagement and Advocacy Apollo Agriculture, Kenya Africa shared insightful knowledge.


Mitigating the Modern Threats – How organisations need to transform their cyber security posture 

Daniel O. Adaramola, Group Head, Technology and Busines Continuity Risk, The Young CISO Network, Nigeria shared his thoughts on leading transformation through change and talking about recent trends mentioned, “for me the kind of transformation which we have seen in last couple of years has been very innovative.”

He also highlighted the issue of ransomware and said that’s been very prevalent in last couple of years.

Leader: CIO: Experience of 10-15 years and multiple domain expertise.
